Year 4 traveled by train to the Odeon cinema, in Birmingham city centre, to see, 'Beauty and the Beast'. It was loved by all - pupils and adults alike very much enjoyed the film. Afterwards we looked at the Birmingham of Library and read books in the children's section and had our lunch.

Year 4 Trip To Cadbury World
We really had a great time at Cadbury World - it was fun and we came back with four chocolate bars! Of course there was learning too - we found out where cacao beans came from and how they were turned into chocolate. Did you know the Aztecs used spices to create a fiery chocolate!

The Stringcredibles apprentices visit Chilcote
On Friday 17th November, we received a visit from the Stringcredibles apprentices- a group of extremely talented young players (aged between 14 and 17) who entertained us with a variety of different pieces. They are a String Quartet, comprising of 2 violins, 1 viola and a cello. We learned abut the different ingredients needed to play pieces of music as part of a team (eg. teamwork, harmony, dynamics etc) and also learned about the different instruments being played.
We all joined in by playing different rhythms and competing against the teachers in a quiz to name different pieces. We had a very inspiring afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Thank you very much to the Stringcredibles apprentices- we had a super time.

Chilcote Girls vs Hollywood Girls
On Friday 17th November the Chilcote Girls' football team played their sixth league fixture against Hollywood school. This would be their last game before the winter break.
The game started badly for Chilcote as Hollywood came flying out of the blocks and put Chilcote under immediate pressure. They won a couple of corners in a row and from one of these Chilcote cleared the ball but it got played back in to a Hollywood player who was free in the area. She turned and slotted the ball home with ease. From then on Chilcote fought their way into the match. They gradually got more possession and moved up the pitch to put the Hollywood goal under some pressure. After 10 minutes, Tamsin showed lovely skill to turn and pass the ball to Anna who ran a long way with the ball before slotting it into the corner past the keeper to make it 1v1.
In the second half, Chilcote were playing down hill and their confidence was high. They had a lot of the ball and put Hollywood under quite a bit of pressure. They just could not find a way past their keeper until Anna passed the ball to Tamsin on the edge of the box she shot but it went to Summer who turned and fired the ball under the keeper to make it 2v1. Chilcote survived a late rally from Hollywood and one glorious chance for them to equalize to win the tight game 2v1.
An excellent comeback and a great performance from the girls. Well done to all involved!!!

Year 6 Mixed Hockey Tournament
On Wednesday 15th November two teams from Chilcote represented the school at a mixed hockey tournament that took place at Hollywood primary school.
The tournament was split into two competitions - one for the 'a' team and one for the 'b' team. Both competitions followed the quick sticks rules.
The 'b' team played in a round robin format where they played two other schools twice. In their two games against the Oaks they lost both in close encounters. One game finished 2v1 and the other 1v0. In their two games against Hollywood they won both. The first game was 3v0 and the second game was 1v0. This meant that they finished in second place in their competition!
The 'a' team were in a group with two other schools and played each other twice too. The winners of the group would qualify for the final against the winners from the other group. Against Yardley Wood Chilcote drew 2v2 and then won 1v0. Against Hollywood Chilcote drew 1v1 and won 2v1, with a last minute goal to win the game. This meant they finished top of the group and go through to the final. In the final they played against the Oaks. The game was really close with both schools having chances to score. Unfortunately for Chilcote, the Oaks managed to score one of their chances and won the final 1v0. It really could have gone either way!
Both teams received silver medals for their finishing positions and represented the school really well. Well done to all involved!!!

Commemorating Remembrance day in Reception
On Friday 10th November, we learned about what Remembrance day is, why we wear poppies and why it is important to commemorate this important day. We painted poppies and decorated them with glitter and observed the 2 minute silence at 11 o`clock.
Later Reception attended the whole school assembly and listened to some of our school trumpet players playing `The Last Post`.

South Birmingham 5-a-side heats
On Tuesday 7th November the Chilcote boys’ football team played in the heats of the South Birmingham 5-a-side competition. The winners of the heats would qualify for the final. Four teams entered and they had to play each other once.
Chilcote started with a game against St Ambrose Barlow. The match was a closely contested affair with Chilcote creating the better chances, three one on ones to be exact. Unfortunately, they did not take any of them. This meant the game finished 0v0.
In their second game Chilcote played against Yarnfield, who had drawn their first game too. They played well and broke the deadlock halfway through the match. Again they were wasteful in front of goal though. They did manage to score a second to win the game 2v0.
Finally, they played Yardley Wood and only a victory would mean they could qualify for the finals night. Straight from the kick off Chilcote had a glorious chance but missed the target. They then had another really good chance but again missed it. Yardley Wood then had a chance of their own and scored. Then, Chilcote conceded again through an own goal which was very unlucky. They lost the game 2v0.
When all the results were in, the heat was very close between the teams. All the teams had won, drew and lost one game. Yarnfield finished last on -1 goal difference, Chilcote and St Ambrose finished joint second with a goal difference of 0 and Yardley Wood came first with a goal difference of +1.
Well done to all of the boys. On another night they could have qualified!

Chilcote Boys vs Yardley Wood
On Friday 3rd November the Chilcote boys’ football team played against Yardley Wood school at Yardley Wood playing fields.
This was their final league game before Christmas. If the boys drew or won the game then they would be the winners of their group and qualify for the top league after Christmas.
The game started well for both teams with both playing good football and trying to create an opening. The first clear cut chance fell to Chilcote via the penalty spot. Dylan hit the ball well but put it the wrong side of the post. Chilcote were just shading things but struggled to get a goal. Then, Yardley Wood got a lucky ricochet which fell to their striker who side stepped the goalkeeper and scored to make it 1v0.
In the second half, Chilcote improved and started to take control of the game. They created a few half chances and a couple of really good chances but either they put it wide or the Yardley Wood goalie was equal to the attempt. With 10 minutes to go Chilcote went all out attack with both forwards on and a few minutes from the end it paid off as they got the deserved equaliser through Harrison who was in the right place at the right time when the goalkeeper spilled the ball. Right at the death Ben had a chance to win the game but put the ball the wrong side of the post. A tough match and a good point which means the boys have won their group!
Well done to all involved for a great comeback and good result!!!

Chilcote Boys Vs Moseley
On Tuesday 31st October the Chilcote boys' football team played their third league game against Moseley school at Yardley Wood playing fields.
In the first half the game started pretty evenly with neither side controlling e match. Slowly but surely Chilcote began to get on top and halfway through the half Gino found Ben with a great pass and he slotted home to make it 1v0. Soon after the same combination got Ben in again but the Moseley goalie pulled off a great save. At half time it was 1v0 to Chilcote.
In the second half the game was again quite even. Five minutes into the half and Chilcote broke from a Moseley corner, Dylan fed Ben who again made no mistake one on one with the keeper and made it 2v0. Chilcote had a few other chances to score but then Moseley had a long range effort that found the top corner, which made for a nervy last five minutes. Fortunately, a couple of minutes before the end Josh managed to get a third goal for Chilcote as he calmly finished a rebounded shot. The game ended 3v1.
A superb performance from all the boys and another great result. Well done to all!!!

Chilcote Girls Vs Percy Shurmer
On Tuesday 31st October Chilcote girls played against Percy Shurmer in the girls' league. This was their fifth fixture so far. The game was played at Yardley Wood playing fields.
The first half started brightly for both teams with neither side taking control. Gradually as the half wore on Percy began to dominate but could not find a way past the Chilcote back-line. Chilcote had their best chance if the half towards the end when Tara went on a long run but she couldnt find a finish. 0v0 at half time.
In the second half Percy continued their domination of the match and halfway through the half found the break through! Then, Chilcote had their best spell of he match and Anna almost scored after a bulldozing run up he pitch. Unfortunately her shot went just past the post. Then Tamsin hit a free kick towards goal but the goalie managed to save and hold the ball. In the last few moments Percy scored a second and the game ended 2v0.
Another battling gutsy display from the Chilcote girls who are getting better every week! Well done to all!!!
