Safer Internet Day: Year 6

Today we have been learning about how we can be responsible users of technology. In particular, Year 6 have focused on risks, what is appropriate to share online and how to spot when we might be at risk of being manipulated.

We watched a series of animations that followed three characters and discussed how they could have made better decisions when using the internet. We discussed how important it is to remain safe online by making sure that we only talk to people that we know in ‘real life’. We devised role-plays to explain and show the different ways that people can be manipulated and we also developed a list of top tips for staying safe online.

Year 6’s Online Safety Top Tips:

1) Keep private information to yourself – don’t share it.

2) Only share things with your friends and people you know in real life.

3) Don't trust anyone that you do not know.

4) Block things you don't like.

5) Think before you say or type.

6) Tell an adult you trust if you see something you do not like.

7) Be responsible and get permission to share photographs of others.

8) Recognise your body’s warning signs and act on them.

We enjoyed our day and feel better equipped to stay safe online.

Year 2 Safer Internet Day.

Year 2 had a brilliant day learning about how to keep safe and how to behave online!

Here are our top tips:

1.       Remember that people who you do not know online are strangers

2.       Always be kind and polite online, just like you would be in the playground

3.       Always keep personal information secret, such as where you live, which school you go to and how you get there

4.       If you feel worried about anything online, always tell an adult that you trust.

Today we played a game where we invented characters, and then did some acting! Other characters tried to persuade us to tell them our personal details and we had to choose what was safe information to share, and what we should keep private.

We also made treasure boxes. In these boxes we put positive behaviours for being online on our computers, or offline in our daily lives.

We did lots of learning and had great fun!

E-Safety work in Reception

On national e-safety day, we enjoyed playing a game to help us identify our similarities, differences and personal information.

We agreed that we should not share our personal information with anyone that we do not know well- in real life or online. We also talked about how to keep safe when using the internet.

We all helped to make class posters to remind us how to keep safe online and to show us the devices that help us access the internet.

Year 4 History: World War 1 Commemorations

This week Year 4 have been learning about World War One.  We found out the reason why the War started and created a timeline showing the key events that happened during the War.   Our main focus of the week was using the ipads to research how the High Street looked during WW1 and how it compares to our shopping centres.  To present our research, we created a leaflet.

Also, as part of the WW1 Commemorations week, we had a visitor who talked to us about how soldiers would dress, what they would eat and the conditions of the trenches.  He even dressed one of us up and we got to look at lots of interesting artefacts!  

 

 

 

 

 

At the end of the week, we were able to sing our year group song ‘Daisy’ to some special visitors from ‘Oak Tree Court’ elderly home.

 

 

As part of our Remembrance work, we also designed and created our own sculptures in Art , which showed the different values linked to war, such as: love, peace, sacrifice and thankfulness.  These got displayed in St Peters Church for the public to visit. 

 Overall, Year 4 have enjoyed learning about WW1 and those that fought for us.

Year 6 Health Week

In Year 6, for health week our chosen country is Argentina. As the World Cup is on the same week as health week, we used the iPads to research about our chosen team, and have found some amazing as well as fascinating facts:

Did you know?

• ·        Argentina’s official language is Spanish.
• ·        The currency of Argentina is the peso.
• ·        The name of Argentina in Latin is silver.
• ·        Did you know that the official name of Argentina was the Argentina Republic?
• ·        Argentina has a population of 42 million people!
• ·        Can you believe that there are 30 national parks in Argentina?

As well as researching about Argentina, Year 6 have also been cooking healthy curries! We made these from scratch – there wasn’t a jar in sight! Have a look at some of our photos and let us know what you think.
