Year 1's Trip to Brueton Park
On Wednesday Year 1 had an amazing day in Brueton Park, Solihull. We spent the day exploring the Nature Centre, looking for insects, pond dipping, finding out what it might be like to be a squirrel, doing a maths lesson using sticks and leaves and most exciting of all rescuing froglets from the path near the pond and putting them in a safer place.
We all worked really hard and were very hungry when it was lunch time.

We pretended that we were squirrels and hid an acorn ready for winter.
We found out what it might be like to be a squirrel or a bird looking up at the trees. Our friends had to guide us to keep us safe.

Wild Maths. We collected leaves and sorted them to find out which colour was most common.

Year 1 had a fantastic trip to Billesley Tennis Centre to take part in a Multi Skills competition.
When we arrived, we got into groups of 10. Everyone took part in 10 different activities including a basketball relay, bean bag throwing and football shooting.
We all had a go at each activity and tried to score as many points as we could for our team.

Autumn Term in Year 1
Year 1 have had a brilliant Autumn Term. For the first half term we transitioned between Reception and Year 1 with choosing activities as well as our focused work. In Autumn 2 we have been working very hard doing our work and our lessons as a whole class.
Our topic for Autumn 1 was 'Our World'. We enjoyed a trip around our local area and learnt all about trees and birds we might find in 'Our World'.
We painted trees, made clay birds and at home we created our very own bird projects which were fabulous!

Year 1 learnt about Dementia UK when we raised money for them by wearing blue. Mrs Butler came to talk to us about the charity and who they help.
As part of learning about 'Our World' we learnt about our rights and we took part in UNICEF's World's Largest Lesson, finding out about where our food comes from.
We also painted some self-portraits in the style of Chuck Close.

We asked our families about the toys they liked to play with and to end our topic we designed and made our own puppets.
Well done for all your hard work this term Year 1! Have a super holiday.
