Year 1 Tennis Roadshow

On Friday 27th April, Year 1 were very lucky as we had a special visitor called Phil from Billesley Tennis Centre. Phil ran a tennis roadshow for Reception and Year 1. Each class was able to take part in a range of tennis activities for half an hour. We learnt some ball and racket skills including throwing, catching, balancing and bouncing the balls. Everyone had a brilliant time!

We practised keeping our eye on the ball!

We had to throw the ball and clap before catching it.

We balanced the ball on our racket first standing still, then walking around.

We took our ball for a walk.

Area Gala Concert -March 2018- second blog

I have realised that some of the video clips previously posted on this blog, will not play properly, so they have now been separated into smaller clips, so I am attempting to post them again- in the hope that they will now play properly! So sorry for the technical hitches.

On Tuesday 27th March, some of Chilcote`s instrumental players took part in a Music Service Area Gala concert at the new Conservatoire in Birmingham.
They performed 4 pieces, as part of the Hall Green Area Mixed Ensemble with children from other schools, then listened to a variety of other groups from all over Birmingham.
They all performed confidently and at a high standard and we were very proud of them all.
Thank you all for representing Chilcote so well, you have all worked hard, attending the ensemble on Tuesday afternoons after school for the past 2 terms.
Thank you very much also to all your parents who have supported your practice and enabled you to attend the rehearsals and concert. It is great to be part of an ensemble like this.

Year 4 Mixed Hockey Tournament

On Friday 20th April 2018, two teams of four children represented Chilcote at a mixed hockey tournament at Hollywood primary school.

There were six teams in total: Chilcote A, Chilcote B, Hollywood, Chad Vale, Bells Farm and Raddlebarn. The teams played a round robing league format and played each other once.

Chilcote A started off with two successive 1v1 draws against Hollywood and Chad Vale. They then lost 1v0 to Bells Farm and lost 2v1 to Raddlebarn. They then won their final game against Chilcote B 1v0 to finish in fourth place in the competition.

Chilcote B started off with a 1v0 loss to Chad Vale and then another 1v0 loss to Hollywood. They then got a 1v1 draw against Bells Farm and a 0v0 draw against Raddlebarn. Finally, they lost 1v0 to Chilcote A to finish in 5th position overall.

The final results were:

Hollywood
Chad Vale
Bells Farm
Chilcote A
Chilcote B
Raddlebarn

Well done to all of the children involved for a fantastic performance!

Year 4 and 5 Football Final

On Thursday 19th April, nine boys from Year 4 and 5 represented Chilcote in the South Birmingham Section of the Birmingham wide competition of 7-a-side football. This was their reward for winning the local competition. The winner out of the group would progress to the next round of the competition to be held at Bodymoor Heath (Aston Villa’s training ground).

There were three teams present on the evening: Chilcote, St Bernardettes and St Johns Bosco. The teams played a round robin league where they played each other twice.

Chilcote played St Johns first and played well. They took the lead through Dylan midway through the second half but then had two lapses in concentration at the back which allowed them to score twice. This meant a 2v1 defeat in the first game.

Next, Chilcote played against St Bernardettes and dominated the first half but just couldnt break through. It looked like the second half would be the same but then Dylan latched onto a through ball and put it away first time.

In the second game against St Johns Bosco Chilcote played well again but just didnt have the cutting edge to get a goal. Then, just before the end St John Bosco scored to win the game 1v0.

In the final game Chilcote played against St Bernadettes again. Despite their best efforts Chilcote just couldnt find a goal. So it finished 0v0.

This meant that Chilcote finished second overall. A great achievement so well done to all involved!!!

Dhol drummers and Recorder group perform at the Awards assembly

This morning, our 2 advanced dhol drumming groups performed at our Awards assembly. Both groups played confidently as a team, independent of adult support. It was so lovely to see how their skills have progressed- some have only played for less than 1 or 2 years.
Well done to you all. Thank you also to Mr Singh who has taught you all every week.

Our Recorder group also played very well. They have worked hard since October, giving up their lunchtimes every Wednesday in order to practise and improve their playing skills and note range.
Thank you- you are sounding lovely. Keep up the good work!

Year Two ask: How do plants grow?

To start off our new science topic on plants, Year Two have been busy planting pea seeds. We are trying to find out how plants grow and how they change.

First we all had our own pot with our name on it. We put a handful of soil in before very carefully placing the little pea seed. Then we covered our seed over and gave it some water.

Over the next few weeks we are going to see how our plants grow and what they need to stay healthy.

Dinosaurs!

After our very popular dinosaur topic last term, the children have done an amazing job with their junk modelling projects.  Thank you to parents for your time and support in helping the children - they are all very proud of their achievements. Have a look at all the amazing models:

Year 2 Multi Skills

Yesterday we were lucky enough to visit the Multi Skills Festival. We all took part in 10 different activities, including balancing bean bags on our heads, practising our dribbling skills with a basketball, taking a shot at goal and throwing at a target.

Everyone had a fantastic time and we all tried our very best in each activity. Our teachers were very impressed with our PE skills and also our fantastic behaviour.
