Chilcote Vs Lee Forest - HMS Cup Semi-Final

On Thursday 11th April, the Chilcote boys' football team played in the HMS Cup semi-final against Lee Forest for a chance to play at Aston Villa's training ground in the final. This is something no Chilcote team has ever done before!

The first half started well for Chilcote and they had the first chance of the match with a rasping long-range drive. Chilcote dominated the ball for the early stages and were rewarded with the first goal of the match with a great left footed finish from Dylan. Shortly afterwards Chilcote had a goal ruled out for offside. Then, Lee Forest with only their second real effort of the match scored with a volley from outside of the box which gave Benjy no chance in goal. Five minutes before the end of the half, Chilcote got a corner and Steven rose to head the ball onto the post, fortunately Milan was there to head in the rebound and make it 2v1. It stayed this way until half time.

In the second half, the game was more even to begin with but neither team created a chance. Then, Lee Forest got a corner and scored direct from the corner - another unstoppable goal! This seemed to galvanise Chilcote and they started to dominate the ball and the chances again. Dylan beat his man and put in a lovely cross for Ben to prod home to make it 3v2 to Chilcote. They then had a further three chances to finish the game off, hitting the bar, having one cleared off the line and narrowly missing the other. This made for a nervy finish but Chilcote were firm defensively and won the game 3v2!

An incredible performance and an outstanding result for the team and for the school - well doen to all involved! Onto the final at Bodymoor Heath!!!

Year 5 and 6 Mixed Netball Tournament

On Wednesday 10th April 2019, eight children represented Chilcote at a mixed netball tournament held at Kings Heath Boys' School.

In total, nine teams entered the tournament and were split into two groups. Everybody in the group played each other once. The winners from each group went through to a final and the second place team in each group went through to a third and fourth place play-off.

Chilcote were in a group with Hollywood, The Oaks and Grendon. They started their campaign against Hollywood. The game was close with Chilcote having slightly more chances to score. They took a lead but then couldn't capitalise on the lead and conceded an equaliser late on in the match. With the clock ticking down and the match looking like it would be drawn Chilcote put away their last chance of the match with virtually the last throw of the match to win 2v1.

In their second game, Chilcote played against the Oaks. They dominated the ball and the chances. Unfortunately, the missed a few chances but did manage to take an early lead. They continued to be the better team and went on to score two more goals later in the match to make the final score 3v0.

In their final group game, Chilcote played against Grendon and played their best netball of the night. The GA and GS really had their shooting hands with them in this game and Chilcote took many of their chances. They raced into the lead and were then relentless in creating and scoring chances. They ended up winning the match 9v0. Therefore, they qualified for the final as winners of their group.

In the final, Chilcote played against Cotteridge, who had been unbeaten in their group. It was a tough game and Cotteridge scored from their first attack. Chilcote tried their best but just couldn't create opportunities as the Cotteridge defence was too tough. The final score was 4v0 to Cotteridge.

Second place overall is a fantastic achievement! Well done to all of the children involved!!!

Girls' Football Vs Moor Green Academy

On Tuesday 9th April 2019, the Chilcote girls' football team played their next league fixture against Moor Green Academy at Yardley Wood playing fields.

The first half started with Chilcote being the dominant force and creating a few opportunities. Unfortunately, they either made the wrong choice or rushed their efforts and couldn't take any of the chances that fell their way. The score at half time was 0v0.

In the second half, Chilcote's fortunes changed and the chances that fell their way they managed to take. First, they scored from a long range shot and then scored from a nice passing move. Moor Green then got a goal back before Chilcote went on to score three more long-ranged efforts. Abi scored a tremendous four goals out of the five! The final score was 5v1 to Chilcote.

A great game and good sportsmanship from both teams. Well done to all involved!!!

Dhol drumming concert

On Tuesday 9th April, we enjoyed a performance from our Dhol drummers who played for their families and friends.
Led by Mr Singh, they all played confidently and showed great skill in playing a variety of different pieces.
It was lovely to see the progress that they have all made this year and to see their concentration and teamwork as they played complex pieces.
Thank you very much to all our super players, their families for attending and being such a supportive audience and especially to Mr Singh for all of his hard work and support this year.

HMS Cup Quarter Final Vs Wheelers Lane

On Friday 5th April, the Chilcote boys’ football team played their quarter final of the HMS cup against Wheelers Lane at Yardley Wood playing fields.

Chilcote started the game well and pegged Wheelers into their own half for long periods. They had a couple of half chances before a rasping shot was spilled by the Wheelers keeper and Isa was on hand to tap in the rebound to make it 1v0 to Chilcote. Chilcote made it 2v0 shortly afterwards when Dylan hit a low driven shot across goal with his weaker foot to find the bottom corner! Wheelers did have the idd break away but Chilcote did their defensive work well.

In the second half Wheelers had more of the ball but Chilcote were still playing well and being resolute defensively.  The game ebbed and flowed with both sides having chances but it wasn't until 5mins before the end that Chilcote sealed the game from the penalty spot after a blatant handball. Ben stepped up and smashed the ball into the back of the net! One minute from time Isa put the icing on the cake and scored a fourth for Chilcote with a lovely finish after a neat one two passing move.

What a result and what a performance! Chilcote march on, into the semi-finals! Well done to all involved!
