Year 5 and 6 mixed netball Tournament

On Wednesday 11th March the Chilcote netball squad entered two teams into the Kings Heath Partnership mixed netball competition.

Chilcote A were in a group with Grendon B, Hollywood, Kings Norton and Allens Croft A. They beat Grendon 5v0 and played really well. Next, they played and beat Allens Croft 4v0. After that, they beat Kings Norton 1v0 in a close game. Finally, they played and drew 0v0 with Hollywood despite having numerous chances to win the match. This meant that they won their group and qualified for the final.

Chilcote B were in a group with Grendon A, Yardley Wood, Cotteridge, Allens Croft B and Bells Farm. First, they played Bells farm and lost 3v0. Then, they played and drew with both Grendon and Allens croft 0v0. After that, they played against Cotteridge and lost 3v0. Finally, they played out a close 1v0 defeat with Yardley Wood. Unfortunately, this meant that they did not qualify for the final or third place playoff.

In the final, Chilcote A played a very good Cotteridge team and tried their best to get their game going. They were on the back foot for much of the game and the pressure told halfway through when Cotteridge's GA was left free to score what turned out to be the winning goal. The game ended 1v0 to Cotteridge. Therefore, Chilcote finished the tournament in second place.

Well done to both teams!!!

Girls match Vs Moor Green

On Tuesday 10th March, Chilcote girls played their next fixture against Moor Green School at Ednbridge Road. The weather was terrible but both sets of girls did their best in spite of this.

The first half was quite even although Chilcote dominated the chances. A few times the ball flashed across the box but nobody could stick their toe on it to direct it on goal. Eventually Ajsa managed to find space after a throw in and struck the ball into the bottom corner of the goal to put Chilcote 1v0 up.

In the second half, the game was very similar - even but Chilcote having the best chances. Halfway through the half Robyn chased down a lost cause and caught the Moor Green defender with the ball and managed to get a strike at goal which flew into the corner to put Chilcote 2v0 up. Chilcote had a few more chances but these were either blocked or were put just wide. The game finished 2v0 to Chilcote.

A great result and good performance. Well done girls!!!

This week is National Science week and Year 1 were lucky enough to have sessions with Sarah King a science specialist.
We had a great time today learning about how rockets launch into space. We enjoyed making rockets and testing them and learned why they are shaped as they are- to make them aerodynamic and have fins to make them stable.
We helped Sarah pump air into the rockets to transfer energy in order to launch into the air. It was great fun.
Thank you very much Sarah, we learned a lot and really enjoyed ourselves.

Chilcote Cello concert

On Friday 6th March, Chilcote cellists held a concert for their families, playing pieces they have been learning over the past few months. They all played extremely well in their groups and some of our  players played solos confidently. It was great to see the progress they have all made this year- from our beginner groups who have only been playing since September, to our more experienced players in Year 6. We are very proud of your progress, well done.
Thank you very much to Mrs Mulenga for her support  and hard work with all the pupils and to our appreciative audience for attending the concert and for supporting the children at home with their practice.

Chilcote Brass concert

On Wednesday 4th March, Chilcote Brass players performed at a super concert for parents. We were very proud of them all as they played beautifully. We heard some super solos and group pieces and it was lovely to hear our beginner groups play at their first concert. The brass band finished the performance, playing in different parts successfully.

Many thanks to Mr Fisher for all his hard work and support and well done to all our players.
