Year 5’s Health Week

We have had lots of fun during health week and have completed many health related activities.  It all began with an amazing assembly from Mr. Haycock, where he introduced all of the countries our classes would be representing.

Here is just a glimpse at a few things we have been up to throughout the week:

Healthy Lifestyles and Peer Pressure

In PSHE, we have learnt about the 5 elements that make a healthy lifestyle: diet, exercise, hygiene, emotional well-being and home and family.  Without all of these 5 elements we wouldn’t be healthy or happy!  We worked in groups to mind map what we already knew about each area and then produce a poster using this information.

Also, we discussed the term ‘Peer Pressure’, the two types of peer pressure and how to resist pressure to do wrong when we are with our peers.

Research time!

Our World Cup country was Germany!  We were given lots of time to research interesting facts about Germany to produce an information booklet.  We worked in groups of 3, using the ipads, ICT room and other information books from the library.  Here are a few of our amazing final products:

Police, Tesco’s and Paramedic

We had a few visitors join us in year 5 to talk about stranger danger, healthy eating and the role of a paramedic.  We took part in a quiz and tried lots of food such as: fruit, cheese and bread.  Our paramedic, Tom, showed us a heart monitor and even used some of us to model how a leg or neck brace works if someone has injured their leg or neck. Take a look –

Overall, we have all had a very enjoyable week in year 5 and loved taking part in health week!
