Year 3's Rainforest Cafe
As part of our Saving the World topic, we have been learning about the location of rainforests and the produce we get from them. Today we were able to try lots of different fruits that come from countries with rainforests. Mango and pineapple were definite favourites in year 3, although lots of us surprised ourselves by liking grapefruit.
We tried mango, pineapple, banana, papaya and red grapefruit. We also learnt about the long journey a banana goes on to get from the plantations in Costa Rica to our lunchboxes here in Birmingham.
After all our delicious snacks, we are certainly thankful that rainforests exist!

Chilcote vs Holy Souls
On Friday 5th May the Chilcote boys football team played their last league game of the season at Yardley Wood playing fields. The game was against Holy Souls, who had beaten Chilcote 5v2 earlier in the season. A win and Chilcote could still win the league, but a draw or defeat would mean their title challenge was over!
Chilcote started well and were dominating the ball and most of the football was played in Holy Soul's half. Unfortunately, not many clear cut chances were made. That was until Hasanain whipped in a corner to the near post and Cian got ahead of his marker to side foot the ball into the back of the net. A little later in the half and the same two players combined again Hasanain playing a little pass through the Holy Souls defence which Cian latched onto and slotted into the corner. The score was 2v0 at half time.
In the second half Holy Souls had the hill and the wind to aid them so Chilcote knew they would come under pressure. Holy Souls huffed and puffed but rarely tested Zach in the Chilcote goal. Leon and Scott were defending really well and Harry was shielding excellently in front of them. Cian had a couple of chances to wrap the game up but just couldn't find the target. Slowly but surely the time ticked away and Chilcote held on to their lead. They eventually won the game 2v0, which gives them a fighting chance of winning the league (dependent on other results).
A fantastic result boys showing the progress that has been made this year! Well done to all involved!!!

Year 1's Entry Point Day - Chilcote Cafe
In Year 1's our topic is We Are What We Eat. This term the children will be learning all about the food for example how it is grown, different food groups, and the importance of washing our hands when we prepare food.
In Year 1 on Wednesday 3rd May, the children started the day by looking at their ingredients and designing menus. The children then had a special talk from Chilcote's own kitchen staff who described the importance of when and why it is so important to wash your hands before and after cooking and eating food! The children then created health no safety posters about the how to wash your hands properly in their Topic books.
In the afternoon children in Year 1 took turns to order, make and eat food in class, whilst enjoying role play with characters such as a waiter, chef and a customer. The children had a wonderful time and a great experience of practising key life skills.

Year 3 and 4 Mixed Tennis Tournament
On Wednesday 3rd May twelve children l, in three teams, from Chilcote represented the school at a mixed tennis tournament. They played against the children from three other schools, who each had two teams. The tournament took place at Billesley Tennis Centre.
The teams were split into two groups. Chilcote A were in group 1 and Chilcote B and C were in group 2. The teams played singles tennis against an opposing player and their results were collated into a team result.
After playing all their group matches, Chilcote A won all of their games and finished top of their group. Chilcote B won some of their games and finished in third in the group, narrowly missing out on the semi-finals. Chilcote C faired slightly better and managed to win group 2 and get through to the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals both Chilcote teams played against teams from Hall Green Juniors. They both won all their individual games to win both of the matches 4v0. This set up a Chilcote A v Chilcote C final. In the end Chilcote A just had too much for Chilcote C and won the final bringing home the trophy.
What a result for the school, gold and silver! Well done to all three teams for their excellent performance!!!
