On Thursday
11th June the boys’ football team played a 7 aside tournament at
Maypole football club. The tournament was a league format with the top 4 teams
out of 6 going through to the semi-finals.
The boys started off against Highters
Heath. Despite dominating the match they just could not find a goal and drew
the game 0v0.
Next, they played Colmore. The boys
were under pressure for much of the match and defended brilliantly against
numerous corners and balls into the box.
After that, they played Broadmeadow
and played very well. They hit the post twice and missed an open goal. They did
get lucky at the end however as Broadmeadow hit the post with the last kick of
the game. The game ended 0v0 again!
In the penultimate game the boys
played Hollywood. This game was a very even match with few chances. Both teams
played well and it was yet another hard fought 0v0 draw.
Finally, Chilcote played against St
Martins. They were dominating the match but again finding it hard to get a
goal. Fortunately though with a few minutes remaining they managed to get a
goal and win the match 1v0.
This meant that the boys finished
third in the league and had to play against Colmore in the semi-final.
The semi-final was a much more even
match than the league game with both teams having good chances to score. Normal
time ended 0v0. In extra time the game was still a stalemate until a couple of
mistakes from Chilcote players led to a Colmore penalty, wich they scored.
Unfortunately, there just wasn’t enough time for the boys to get an equaliser
and the game ended 1v0 to Colmore.
Well done to all of the boys who played
really well throughout the tournament and can be proud of their performances!!!
