On Thursday 2nd March the children of Chilcote celebrated World Book Day!
All of the children dressed up as their favourite character from their favourite book. It created a collage of colour when the children arrived in the morning.
Here are some of the year 5 staff in their costumes:
The children in year 5 had a number of activities to undertake as part of World Book Day. Firstly, they discussed their characters and the book they came from. They tried to persuade the other children why their book was the best and why they should read it as their next book.
After that, all of the children had a splendid poetry workshop with a guest Performance Poet, Jess. They played a rhyming game in groups, listened to a couple of Jess's poems and then they devised their own poem entitled 'I came from . . . '. Four of the children (chosen at random) performed their poem for the whole school in the assembly.
Finally, at the end of the day the children had an assembly with the poet where she discussed her inspirations for being a poet and her day to day life. The school Council asked some questions too.
Also, throughout the week, the children read, learned and performed the poem 'The Witches Spell' from the play Macbeth. They looked at the features of the poem, and discussed the language. They then watched a video of the poem being performed before attempting to replicate the performance themselves. All of the children did a fantastic job of speaking confidently and performing in front of their peers!
