On Friday 24th March eight children in Year 5 represented the school at a boys' football tournament at Yardley Wood playing fields.
There were a total of ten teams. These were split into two groups of five. All of the teams in each group played each other once with the top two teams qualifying for the semi finals.
Chilcote played Colmore in their first game and despite being dominated for most of the match came away with a 0v0 draw. Then, they played against St Martins and managed to get a deserved 1v0 win courtesy of a cool finish from Josh. After that, they played against Percy Shermur and dominated the game but won due to a goalkeeper error by the Percy keeper who dropped Madison's long range free kick into the net. Finally, the boys played their best stuff in their last game against St Bernards and won 2v0. All of this meant they qualified in second place on goal difference from the group and played the winners of the other group in the semi final.
In the semi final Chilcote played against the Oaks. The game was an even affair with the Oaks having more long range efforts. Chilcote did manage to break out quite a few times and on one of those break aways Madison managed to smash the ball home. Chilcote then managed to hold onto that lead and win the game 1v0.
In the final Chilcote played Colmore again who were a very good side. Colmore dominated the final but again could not find away past Shayan in goal. He made one outstanding save in a one on one situation. The match went to penalties and Colmore missed their first penalty. None of the Chilcote boys missed so they won the shoot out and go on to represent South Birmingham in the next round. Well done to all of the boys for a fantastic team effort!!!
