4 Maple really looked fantastic dressed as book characters - well done everybody involved! In the morning the children in the class did a cat walk and told the class who they had come as.

World Book day in Year 1
Year 1 have had a great time celebrating World Book Day. The children came to school in a fantastic range of different costumes.
We had great fun learning and reciting Michael Rosen's well known poem "We're going on a bear hunt."
Chilcote Violin and Viola concert
Today we enjoyed a super concert from our violin and viola players, playing pieces they have learned over the last term and a half at school. They all played extremely well in their groups/pairs and Anna played a solo confidently and expressively. It was so lovely to see the progress made by our `beginners` who started in September 2017 and the progression throughout each year group as we listened to our more experienced players.
Each group showed superb teamwork listening to each other and keeping to the same tempo and playing alongside the piano accompaniment.
Well done to you all and to Miss Hobbs who has taught you so enthusiastically and supported you so well in your learning since September.
Thank you very much to the parents who were able to attend - we really appreciate your support-and to Miss Hobbs for her hard work.
Apologies for the quality of some of these photos.

Year 5 and 6 Football Match Vs Billsley
On Monday 26th February the Chilcote boys' football team played against Billesley School in their first match in South Birmingham division 1. The match took place at Yardley Wood playing fields.
The match started well for both teams with both of them enjoying bits of possession. Gradually, Billesley began to take control of the match and had a quite a few long range efforts, which either went wide or were saved by Benjy. Chilcote defended valiantly all through the half and restricted them to only a few half chances. Then, just before the half time whistle Chilcote broke away and had a really good chance to score but unfortunately they hit the bar.
In the second half the pattern of the match remained the same and Billesley dominated. Although, Chilcote had the first two chances of the half. One they put over and the other, a one on one, was hit straight at the onrushing goalkeeper. Halfway through the half Billesley deservedly took the lead when their best player smashed the ball into the top corner. Chilcote then went for it to try to get back into the game and left themselves open at the back and conceded two more goals to the same player.
Billesley deserved to win the match but had Chilcote taken their chances they may have got a lucky win. The boys did fantastically well considering how cold it was and the constant downfalls of snow. Well done to all involved who did themselves and the school proud!!!

Year 3 and 4 Mixed Football Final
On Wednesday 14th February eight children from Year 4 represented Chilcote in a mixed 5-a-side football final (they had won the local partnership event earlier this year) at the 'Play Football Arena' in Birmingham. As this was the Birmingham finals they were playing against lots of schools who had also won their local sports partnership event.
Chiclote were placed in a group with four other teams, who they had to play once each. The top two in each group (two groups) went through to the semi-finals.
Chilcote played first against Paget school and played really well. They took the lead halfway through the half when Ryan scored a clever free-kick. Ryan then got his and Chilcote's second goal from long range. They won the match 2v0.
In their second game, Chilcote played against Bellfield School and again won the game 2v0. This time it was Euan's turn to score all the goals as he drove in two shots from distance. Again the team played really well and thoroughly deserved to win.
Thirdly, Chilcote played against Hillstone, who were a very strong team with one exceptional player. Chilcote huffed and puffed and hit the post before succumbing to a 2v0 defeat. With a bit more luck the game could have been different.
Finally, Chilcote played against Little Sutton and dominated the match having lots of chances but not taking any of them. On a rare break away Little Sutton then took the lead. Benjy then pulled one goal back for Chilcote but they couldn't, despite making a couple more chances get the winner they deserved.
When all the results were in Chilcote missed out on the semi-finals courtesy of having a one less goal difference than Bellfield school. Such an unlucky way to go out!
All of the children represented the school superbly well and did their best, with a bit more luck they would have made it to the semi-finals, well done to all!!!

Chilcote String Group at the Music Service Chamber concert
On the evening of Wednesday 14th February, Chilcote String group (formerly quartet -which has grown to 6 members) took part in a Music Service Chamber concert at the Ladywood Arc.
They listened to a variety of other groups from other Birmingham schools first, then performed 2 pieces, accompanied by Miss Hobbs- our strings teacher.
They all performed confidently and at a very high standard and we were very proud of them all.
Thank you to you all for all your hard work, you have given up a lot of lunchtimes to practise and worked well as a team, thank you very much also to Miss Hobbs for all her enthusiasm and support in helping you all to progress so well.
Thank you also to all your parents who have supported your practice and brought you to the concert- in very heavy traffic.

Some special visitors in Year 2 ...
Wow! What an exciting week Year Two have had. On Monday we were joined by the very adorable Patrick the hamster.
The excitement continued today when Jake the snake, who usually lives at Mrs Rafter's house, visited our classroom.
Jake is a corn snake and he is very friendly. We really liked feeling his soft, smooth skin and watching him coil around.
We asked lots of great questions to find out about Jake's diet and habitat. We are now going to use all of our information to write a non-fiction text about corn snakes and, if we try our very best with our writing, Mrs Rafter is going to make a book of our work to take home and show Jake.
We had great fun watching him shuffling around his cage and burrowing under his bedding. We asked super questions and found out lots of information all about hamsters so that we could do a piece of non-fiction writing. Did you know that Patrick is a Winter White breed of hamster? We were very lucky as we were able to stroke Patrick gently and feel how soft his fur is.

Chilcote brass concert for parents
Today Chilcote brass players put on a concert for their parents, playing pieces they have learned over the last term and a half at school. They all played extremely well in their groups and Jayden and Max also played solos confidently. Our more experienced players also played in the `Chilcote brass band`.
Everyone played very well, showing good progress since the beginning of the year and each group showed superb teamwork listening to each other and keeping to the same tempo.
Well done to you all and to Mr Fisher who has taught you so enthusiastically since September.
Congratulations too as many of you have taken and passed brass exams this academic year- we are very proud of you. Thank you very much to the parents who were able to attend - we really appreciate your support-and to Mr Fisher for his hard work.

Safer Internet Day in Year 2
We started our Safer Internet Day in Year 2 learning all about our 'digital footprint'. We found out that this is the trail we leave when we search for things online and use different websites and apps.
We had lots of fun creating our own digital footprints to show the devices we use to connect to the internet and our favourite things to use it for.
Year 2 spent lots of time discussing the things we must do to stay safe online and we all know that if something goes wrong we should tell an adult straight away.
Another visit from an 'Everyday Hero' Nurse Dempsey
We were very lucky in Reception to have a visit from Sister Dempsey (AKA Henry's Mum!)
We asked lots of questions about nurses and their jobs. We talked about our bodies and how to keep healthy. Mrs Eames had her blood pressure tested and Mrs Lampitt had her arm bandaged! We had lots of bandages to practise on each other. Some of us even listened to our hearts with a stethescope!
Thank you Mrs Dempsey.

Junior Choir at Solihull school.
Junior Choir took part in a concert in the chapel at Solihull school on Wednesday 7th February, performing alongside St Margaret`s school, Solihull. We sang a beautiful song called `Believe` with St Margaret`s and then sang 2 songs of our own. We listened to some of the Year 7 and 8 Chapel choristers and St Margaret`s choir and also watched an organ recital.
Thank you very much to Mrs Brown and Mr Woodrow from Solihull school who organised the event and hosted it so well. We had a fabulous lunch (some children enjoyed several different puddings!) and were looked after beautifully by Sirius - our friend and previous Chilcote choir member.Thank you Sirius- it was so lovely to see you again.
