On Wednesday 14th February eight children from Year 4 represented Chilcote in a mixed 5-a-side football final (they had won the local partnership event earlier this year) at the 'Play Football Arena' in Birmingham. As this was the Birmingham finals they were playing against lots of schools who had also won their local sports partnership event.
Chiclote were placed in a group with four other teams, who they had to play once each. The top two in each group (two groups) went through to the semi-finals.
Chilcote played first against Paget school and played really well. They took the lead halfway through the half when Ryan scored a clever free-kick. Ryan then got his and Chilcote's second goal from long range. They won the match 2v0.
In their second game, Chilcote played against Bellfield School and again won the game 2v0. This time it was Euan's turn to score all the goals as he drove in two shots from distance. Again the team played really well and thoroughly deserved to win.
Thirdly, Chilcote played against Hillstone, who were a very strong team with one exceptional player. Chilcote huffed and puffed and hit the post before succumbing to a 2v0 defeat. With a bit more luck the game could have been different.
Finally, Chilcote played against Little Sutton and dominated the match having lots of chances but not taking any of them. On a rare break away Little Sutton then took the lead. Benjy then pulled one goal back for Chilcote but they couldn't, despite making a couple more chances get the winner they deserved.
When all the results were in Chilcote missed out on the semi-finals courtesy of having a one less goal difference than Bellfield school. Such an unlucky way to go out!
All of the children represented the school superbly well and did their best, with a bit more luck they would have made it to the semi-finals, well done to all!!!
