Year 3 Recorder concert

On Thursday 28th March, the whole of Year 3 performed on their recorders for their families and friends. They all tried very hard and played 5 different pieces very well as a team
We have only been learning to play the recorder for 10 weeks and have worked hard, learning the fingering, playing skills and learning to read from music notation.
We have had fun playing different pieces and were proud to show our new skills to our families.
Many thanks to Miss Scarle, Mr Bannister and Mrs Chohan for their support and encouragement and a big thank you to our lovely audience who were warm and encouraging.
Remember that our Year 3 players can now get ready to join our Year 4 recorder lunchtime club next school year if they would like to continue to play and develop their skills.

Some special visitors in Year 2

This week Year Two have had some special, rather fluffy, visitors. The chicks came to visit us and help us with our science work.

We felt the chick's soft fur and looked at the incubator that was helping them to grow.

Using our science knowledge we have worked out how an egg turns into a fully grown chicken.

Violin and Viola concert

On Tuesday 19th March, our violin and viola players performed for their families in a concert led by Miss Hobbs, our violin and viola teacher.
We heard from all of our players from our beginners up to our most advanced players in Year 5 and 6.
It was super to hear how well everyone has progressed since our last concert in July and all the children played confidently. It was great to see

how well the groups played together and with the piano accompaniment- a tricky skill in itself.
Well done to all our players and a huge thank you to Miss Hobbs who has worked tirelessly and enthusiastically all year.
Thank you also to our lovely audience- please keep up the support and encouragement at home- it makes a big difference.

Chilcote Girls vs Hall Green

On Monday 18th March the Chilcote girls’ football team played their latest league fixture against Hall Green school at their school pitch.

The game started well for Chilcote and they dominated the early possession. They had a couple of half chances but couldnt find the net. Eventually however they did find the break through goal and went 1v0 up. The floodgates then opened and Chilcote scored a further four goals before half time. They led 5v0 at the break.

In the second half Chilcote again dominated the ball and the chances but Hall Green did have a few chances of their own. Chilcote scored another four goals in the second half but Hall Green also managed to score three goals of their own. The final score at the end of the match was 9v3 to Chilcote.

All of the girls played really well in a fantastic game. Special mention to Emina and Tara who scored 5 and 4 goals respectively - a fantastic achievement by both girls. Well done to all!!!

Year 4 and 5 Boys' Football Tournament

On Friday 15th March, a group of nine Year 4 and 5 children represented the school in the South Birmingham Year 4 and 5 boys competition.

The ten teams were split into two groups. Chilcore were drawn into a group with the Oaks, Hollywood, St Bernards and St Johns. They were to play each team once. The top two teams in each group would go through to the semi-finals.

First, Chiclote played against the Oaks and totally dominated the match from start to finish. They played some good football and managed to score four goals. This could have been more. The game ended 4v0 to Chilcote.

Then, Chilcote played against Hollywood who were a good team. Chilcote still dominated the game although Hollywood did have a couple of half chances. Unfortunately, Chilcote couldnt put their chances away and the game ended 0v0.

After that, Chilcote played against St Bernards and again dominated the game and refound their shooting boots. They scored three to win the game 3v0.

Finally, they played against St Johns and despite being camped in their half for pretty much the whole game had to wait until the last minute to score and win the game 1v0.

This meant that Chilcote won the group and went into the semi-finals against St Albans.

This match went the way of all the other games and Chilcote dominated the game. They did struggle to create clear cut chances but had more than enough to win the game. Unfortunately, they didnt take any. Midway through the second half St Albans managed to break out and have their first shot at goal and it went in. After that Chilcote huffed and puffed but couldnt find a goal and ended up losing 1v0.

The boys played well all night and if they just took their chances would have made it to the final but that is football. Well done to all involved for a fantastic effort!!!

St Patrick's Day

We had a special visitor in Nursery today - Chris came to show us how to do Irish dancing.  He wore special shoes that made tapping noises on the floor when he danced.   He moved very fast in time to the music.   It was very exciting to watch and then we had a go.   It was great fun.

Year 6 Basketball Plate Tournament

On Tuesday 12th March the Chilcote mixed basketball squad played in the South Birmingham and Kings Norton District Plate final. They qualified for this courtesy of finishing third in the original South Birmingham League night.

The tournament was a round-robin between Chilcote, John Bosco, the Meadows, St Martins and Billesley.

In their first match, Chilcote played against Billesley and played really well. They finished well and scored four baskets to win the game 8v0.

In the second match, they played against the Meadows and really found their shooting hands to score 7 baskets without reply. They won the match 14v0.

Third up was John Bosco and this proved to be a tough match for Chilcote. John Bosco scored first with their first real shot of the match. Chilcote then scored three baskets in a row to be leading 6v2 before John Bosco scored their second basket of the evening to make a nervy finish to the game. Fortunately for Chilcote, their were no more baskets and they won the game 6v4.

Finally, Chilcote played against St Martins, who were also undefeated in the tournament. Chilcote started well and took an early lead. Both teams had chances to score following that but neither took them until later in the game when Chilcote doubled their lead. St Martins then scored a deserved basket to set up another nervy finish. Yet again Chilcote held out to win 4v2.

This meant that they were undefeated on the night and won all of their games so won the Plate competition. This meant they finished in sixth place in the overall standings for the whole league. Well done to all of the children involved on a fantastic night!!!

Year 5 and 6 girls' game Vs Wheelers Lane

On Monday 11th March the Chilcote girls' football team played against Wheelers Lane in their latest league game.

In the first half, the game started quite even with neither team taking control. Then, Wheelers began to dominate the ball and their one girl started to pull the strings in midfield. She scored the only goal of the half to make it 1v0 to Wheelers. Chilcote had one big chance but the ball ran past the post instead of into the net.

In the second half, Wheelers continued to dominate the game with Chilcote limited to breaks upfield when they nicked possession. Wheeler's one girls really stood out and scored a further two goals, and set up another. Again, Chilcote missed a big chance when Wheeler's keeper pulled off a fine save. The match ended 4v0 to Wheelers Lane.

The girls did well and tried their best throughout. Well done to all involved!!!

World Book Day in Nursery

We had a fantastic time on Friday listening to stories and showing our costumes for World Book Day.   We were dressed up as a variety of different book characters.

We learned to say a poem and performed it to the Reception Classes.

The poem we learned is called...

 "Grandma's Glasses"
These are Grandma's glasses,
This is Grandma's hat.
Grandma folds her arms like this
And puts them in her lap.

These are Grandpa's glasses,
This is Grandpa's hat.
Grandpa folds his arms like this
And takes a little nap.
