World Book Day in Year 2

What a fantastic effort by all of the children to come in costume and celebrate their favourite books and characters. Well done Year 2!!!

We started the day with a catwalk show of our costumes in the hall. The children showed off their moves and what they were wearing before explaining which book they were from.

After that, we moved back to the classroom and looked at our nonsense poem for the day - On The Ning Nang Nong by Spike Milligan. The children watched Spike perform the poem himself before they began to look at it in more detail. We then looked at how we could perform the poem better using tone, volume and pace. The children then went into small groups and worked on a small section of the poem before performing it to the rest of the class. We then added in some musical accompaniments before performing the whole thing together as a class. The children were magnificent.

After lunch, we went to Year 1 and watched their performance poem and performed ours to them. All of the children did really well with this and remembered all of their lines.

Finally, we had a whole-school assembly led by Jess Green (our guest Poet) who shared one of her poems with us and answered some of our questions. Some children in Year 5 and 6 performed their poems as well!

What a fantastic day in Year 2. Well done to all!!!
