On Monday 9th March Chilcote (Jack, Kyle, Max,
James, Ali, Regan, Leo, Bradley, Harry and Johnny) played against Walmley
Junior School in Sutton Coldfield. This was in the HMS cup competition, where
the children get to play at Bodymoor Heath if thy make it to the final. The
match was a 9a-side game.
Walmley started the match very brightly and looked very good
in attack. They had a few attempts at goal before finally breaking the
deadlock. Jack made a fantastic save but the Walmley players reacted quickest
to put in the rebound. The goal woke Chilcote up and they started to come into
the game and have some attacks of their own. They won a free kick which Johnny
swung in and the ball dropped to Regan who smashed it into the back of the net.
The rest of the half was end to end with Walmley having the more shots on goal
but with Chilcote breaking well. The score was 1v1 at half time. In the second
half Walmley put Chilcote under a fair amount of pressure. However, it was
Chilcote who took the lead after another fantastic free kick from Johnny was
met by Bradley who headed the ball into the back of the net. Chilcote then
defended for their lives but unfortunately with just 4 minutes remaining they
failed to clear a ball put into the box and Walmley equalised. The game went to
extra time and Walmley finally made their pressure count and scored a goal in
each half of extra time. The final score after extra time was 4v2 to Walmley.
Chilcote gave a great account of themselves but lost to a very good side. Well
done to all of the children involved!!!
