The children had an exciting afternoon working in the garden with Dave. He showed them how to plant bean seeds and how to put plants into containers. When the plants start to grow the containers will be placed around school. They brought the bean seeds back to the classroom so that they can look after them until they grow.

1 Fir in the Garden
Last Wednesday it was 1 Fir's turn to help Dave with the gardening. They had a fantastic time helping him to plant flowers, tidy up and do digging. Thanks Dave. They even had to use the wheelbarrows!

2Rowan in the garden
On Wednesday 18th May we had our second class trip to the garden. It was a little bit soggy but we still had lots of fun! It was really interesting to see how the garden had changed from our last trip in the Autumn term. We found some rhubarb and radishes that we have given to the kitchen for our lunches!

What a busy half term Nursery has had.
First we waved our
butterflies off and set them free in the school garden. Some of the butterflies
liked us that much that they didn’t want to leave the net. We looked after them
by giving them fruit to feed from and we were very gentle when we watched them
change into their chrysalis and then transform into butterflies. We hope that
they all flew onto a leaf and laid eggs of their own.
Next we had our inspire work shop.
Thank you to the Nursery parents who joined us for our Inspire workshop. It was great to show you our Nursery routines that we do every day and to look at some maths activities that we do to learn all about number. We found out that numbers are very helpful! We celebrated Nigel's birthday and put the right number of candles on the cakes, as well as making Nigel's magic watch and finding our numbers to 10 outside.
Then it was the Nursery trip to Ashend House Farm.
Nursery had a lovely
day at the farm. We had a fantastic time
feeding the animals and learning about where they live and what they eat. We fed a goat, bottle fed a lamb very quickly
and even got to hold a chick. Some of us balanced him on our arm! Thank you to
all our parent helpers who came with us to the farm.
Finally, we
had a visit from the Animal Man.
We had a
super visit from Mo, otherwise known as 'The animal man'! We learnt lots about the different animals he
had brought along for us to meet. Lots
of us were brave and had a go at touching or holding the animals!

RASH in Chilcote Garden
Yesterday we were very excited as it was our turn in the garden. Luckily, it had stopped raining.
We started the garden session with Dave the gardener giving us a tour of the garden. He explained what everything was and how the school was trying to grow its own fruit. Then he showed us the compost bin and how we are making our own compost at school and how the worms are helping us too.
The most exciting part was when we went into the poly tunnel to look at the plants, seeds and other things that were being housed in there for the winter months. We then helped Dave plant seeds. We had a fun afternoon, thank you to Dave for a fantastic afternoon of learning!

4 Maple In The Garden
On Wednesday 21st October 4 Maple had their turn in the garden. Luckily, the weather was nice and it had stopped raining.
Firstly, the children were taken on a guided tour of the garden by Dave. He explained what everything was and how the school was trying to grow its own fruit. Everybody learnt something new, even Mr Haycock!
Secondly, the children went in the poly tunnel to look at the plants, seeds and other things that were being housed in there for the winter months. The children looked at sunflower seeds and tomatoes.
Finally, everybody got their hands dirty by digging for potatoes. Then, they had to pick up great big piles of leaves to make compost, before they unearthed plants (trying to keep the root attached).
Thank you to Dave for a fantastic afternoon of learning!

Out and About Week in Year 4
As part of ‘Out and About Week’ year 4 have been doing lots
of different activities.
Firstly, we went to Chinnbrook playground so that we could
evaluate it, and make suggestions about how to improve it. After that, we designed
our own playground which included lots of the improvements.
Secondly, 4 Lime went to the garden and learnt about all of
the plants growing there. They also learnt about how to look after the
different plants.
Thirdly, in English we read a story called ‘Ruby Nettleship
and the Ice Lolly Adventure’ in the story area. This was about a girl who
played at a playground that needed to be made better. Also, we wrote a letter
to the Mayor asking them to improve Chinnbrook playground.
Fourthly, in Maths we played games in the outdoor area. We
played human battleships (to help with our coordinates) and giant snakes and
ladders (to help with our counting).
Next, we went on a litter pick to help keep the local
community tidy. We picked up the litter on Scribers Lane.
Finally, visited the Macmillan coffee morning and ate lots of cakes. Also, we decorated our harvest box ready for it to be given away.
We have all really enjoyed ‘Out and About Week’ and learning
outdoors!!!

Year 1 become garden designers!
Year 1 were set the task of designing their own garden as part of our Flowers and Insects topic. The children were able to choose their own media to use and could make their garden as big or as small as they liked. The gardens that arrived in the classroom last Friday were fantastic and the whole school came to see them! The teachers were very impressed with how much time and thought had gone into this project. We observed a pathway made out of oats, seesaws, slides and bird tables made out of a variety of materials as well as vegetable patches with pretend and in some cases real fruit and vegetables growing! Take a look at our fantastic gallery!
