In Year 6 we made poppies to respect and to remember the
people that died in the Great War of 1914-1918. We discussed the poem In Flanders Fields and we
learnt why we wear poppies. It is because they were the first sign of
life on the battlefields after the war ended. We learnt that the money from the
sale of poppies through the Royal British Legion goes to the families of
serving soldiers and those that have lost people during wartime; it may also go to veterans who have served our country's forces bravely. As a school we
have displayed our poppies in a '100' memorial sign because it has been 100 years since
World War I has ended.

Remembrance Day in Year 2
In Year Two we made poppies using tissue paper and we tied
them onto the 100. We were remembering the end of World War One 100 years ago.
We learnt all about a nurse called Edith Cavell who helped the people who were injured in WW1. We decided that Edith was a hero for helping all soldiers no
matter which side they were fighting for. We wanted to say thank you to Edith Cavell and the other nurses and doctors who treated people during the war.

Health Week in Year Two
We have been very busy this week designing, making and, of course, tasting healthy sandwiches as part of our DT work.
After learning about the importance of hygiene when preparing food, we began by taste testing a variety of breads and lettuce types. We weren't too keen on rocket and pulled some rather funny faces whilst eating it! Our teachers were very impressed with the way we all tried everything, even when we weren't too sure if we would like it.
We then selected our ingredients and designed our sandwiches, making sure they were healthy and could be part of a balanced diet. We practised our grating, spreading and chopping skills before we assembled our sandwiches.
Then it was time for the best bit - the eating! We all enjoyed our sandwiches and were able to evaluate our recipes, discussing what we liked and what we would change if we made them again.

Year 2 at Peckwood
Last week, lots of Year Two children went on their first ever residential at Peckwood near Alvechurch. We were very lucky to have the sun shining the whole time we were there and we spent most of our time outside playing with each other, exploring the forest and practising the skills we learnt at Forest School.
We worked in teams to collect materials and create dens for our teddy bears.

In the evening, we enjoyed our yummy roast dinner, cooked by Mr Cross, and then had a campfire and talent show. We toasted marshmallows and ate tasty hot dogs before we went on a night walk through the forest.
We spent lots of time playing with each other and our teachers were very impressed with how well we all got on.
Well done to all the children for being very well behaved. We had a wonderful time!

Autumn Term in Year 1
Year 1 have had a brilliant Autumn Term. For the first half term we transitioned between Reception and Year 1 with choosing activities as well as our focused work. In Autumn 2 we have been working very hard doing our work and our lessons as a whole class.
Our topic for Autumn 1 was 'Our World'. We enjoyed a trip around our local area and learnt all about trees and birds we might find in 'Our World'.
We painted trees, made clay birds and at home we created our very own bird projects which were fabulous!

Year 1 learnt about Dementia UK when we raised money for them by wearing blue. Mrs Butler came to talk to us about the charity and who they help.
As part of learning about 'Our World' we learnt about our rights and we took part in UNICEF's World's Largest Lesson, finding out about where our food comes from.
We also painted some self-portraits in the style of Chuck Close.

We asked our families about the toys they liked to play with and to end our topic we designed and made our own puppets.
Well done for all your hard work this term Year 1! Have a super holiday.
