Year 5 and 6 mixed netball Tournament

On Wednesday 11th March the Chilcote netball squad entered two teams into the Kings Heath Partnership mixed netball competition.

Chilcote A were in a group with Grendon B, Hollywood, Kings Norton and Allens Croft A. They beat Grendon 5v0 and played really well. Next, they played and beat Allens Croft 4v0. After that, they beat Kings Norton 1v0 in a close game. Finally, they played and drew 0v0 with Hollywood despite having numerous chances to win the match. This meant that they won their group and qualified for the final.

Chilcote B were in a group with Grendon A, Yardley Wood, Cotteridge, Allens Croft B and Bells Farm. First, they played Bells farm and lost 3v0. Then, they played and drew with both Grendon and Allens croft 0v0. After that, they played against Cotteridge and lost 3v0. Finally, they played out a close 1v0 defeat with Yardley Wood. Unfortunately, this meant that they did not qualify for the final or third place playoff.

In the final, Chilcote A played a very good Cotteridge team and tried their best to get their game going. They were on the back foot for much of the game and the pressure told halfway through when Cotteridge's GA was left free to score what turned out to be the winning goal. The game ended 1v0 to Cotteridge. Therefore, Chilcote finished the tournament in second place.

Well done to both teams!!!

Girls match Vs Moor Green

On Tuesday 10th March, Chilcote girls played their next fixture against Moor Green School at Ednbridge Road. The weather was terrible but both sets of girls did their best in spite of this.

The first half was quite even although Chilcote dominated the chances. A few times the ball flashed across the box but nobody could stick their toe on it to direct it on goal. Eventually Ajsa managed to find space after a throw in and struck the ball into the bottom corner of the goal to put Chilcote 1v0 up.

In the second half, the game was very similar - even but Chilcote having the best chances. Halfway through the half Robyn chased down a lost cause and caught the Moor Green defender with the ball and managed to get a strike at goal which flew into the corner to put Chilcote 2v0 up. Chilcote had a few more chances but these were either blocked or were put just wide. The game finished 2v0 to Chilcote.

A great result and good performance. Well done girls!!!

Y3/4 and Y5/6 Tennis Competition

On Tuesday 25th February twenty four children from Chilcote represented the school in both a Year 3 and 4 tennis competition and a Year 5 and 6 tennis competition. The competition was held at Billesley tennis centre.

The format for the competition was teams of four children, two boys and two girls. They were ranked 1 and 2. Each Chilcote team played other schools and matched up with their corresponding ranked pupil from the other school. Each game counted towards the teams score in the overall match.

In the Year 3 and 4 competition, Chilcote A played five fixtures and won them all and finished in first place overall! Chilcote B also won the B/C competition winning all of their matches too. Chilcote C finished a very respectable 4th place in this competition too!

In the Year 5 and 6 competition, Chilcote A repeated the feat of their younger counterparts and won all of their matches to come away with the gold medal too! Chilcote B finished in second place in the B/C competition and Chilcote C finished in first place!

The children represented the school amazingly well and did Chilcote proud. Well done to all involved!

Chilcote Vs St Ambrose (Boys' game)

On Thursday 13th February the Chilcote boys' football team played their first division one game against St Ambrose Barlow at Edenbridge Road fields.

In the first half, Chilcote started on top and created a number of chances but just couldn't find the back of the net. In their first foray into Chilcote's half St Ambrose nearly took the lead but Ben made a great save. Not long after, Chilcote finally finished off one of their chances when Benjy slipped in Noah who finished under the goalkeeper. The score was 1v0 at half time.

Early in the second half, Chilcote doubled their lead when Noah played a lovely ball across to the unmarked Benjy who got a toe on the ball for it to trickle into the net. Chilcote's third followed shortly afterwards when Harry met James's corner with a bullet header at the back post. St Ambrose then replied with a goal of their own from a free-kick that flew into the bottom corner. Chilcote then went straight down the other end and scored a fourth as Benjy was again left unmarked in the box and managed to slam the ball home after some great work from Lewis. Benjy then turned provider and laid the ball across the box for James to rifle home. The game finished 5v0 to Chilcote.

A great result and a good performance from the team, well done boys!!!

Chilcote Vs Hollywood (Netball A and B)

On Monday 10th February, Chilcote played a mixed netball match against Hollywood school. The game was played at Chilcote. Both schools had an A team and a B team.

In the A team game, Chilcote started really well and took their first two chances. They then missed  couple but were still playing well. In the second quarter they increased their lead by another two, so it was 4v0 at half-time. Chilcote continued their dominance into the third quarter. They were defending really well and limiting Hollywood's opportunities whilst still attacking with a good threat. They scored a further two goals to make it 6v0 after three quarters. In the final quarter, Chilcote managed to be even more clinical and they scored a further three goals, taking nearly every chance that fell their way. The final score was 9v0 to Chilcote. A great performance from the team who put into practice all of the things they have been doing in training.

In the B team game, Chilcote began the match well and immediately took control of the ball. They had a few opportunities to score and managed to take two of them to lead 2v0 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the game was more even with both teams having some good attacks. Chilcote were the more clinical and took two of their chances. In the thrid quarter, Chilcote played their best netball of the match and really defended brilliantly and attacked with speed. They were rewarded with another goal to make it 5v0 after three quarters. In the final quarter, despite Chilcote having some chances they could not add to their lead. They played well but just couldn't score. This meant the game finished 5v0. Well done to all of the children for putting in a great performance!!!

PARTNERSHIP DANCE COMPETITION (KS 1 and KS 2)

Wednesday 5th February was the day that both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 Dance squads had been waiting for…..The Kings Heath Partnership inter-school dance competition.
After many hours of practice, the children presented their dances to a panel of judges and dance squads from other partnership schools, from whom they also learned a great deal about showmanship and technique. If the girls were at all nervous, it didn’t show. What was clear was their enthusiasm and their commitment to do the school proud and themselves proud. They achieved both!

Thank you all, including the Year 5&6 coaches for the KS1 team, for your commitment. We look forward to doing it all again next year.

Competition results:
KS1: awarded 1st place
KS2: awarded joint 3rd place

Chilcote Vs Percy Shurmer

On Tuesday 4th February, the Chilcote girls' football team played their first division 2 fixture against Percy Shurmer at Edenbridge Road.

In the first half, Chilcote played really well and dominated possession of the ball and a few chances to score. Evie took one of those chances halfway through the half with a lovely finish from just inside the box. Unfortunately, just before half time a long ball found the Percy striker free and she kept her composure to equalise.

After half time, the game became much more even. A mix up between the goalkeeper and defender for Chilcote meant that Percy got an easy goal. Fortunately, not long afterwards Robyn scored a great solo goal, outpacing the defender and calmly slotting home. Then, Percy scored a freak goal when a girl booted the ball and the wind helped it to bounce over the Chilcote keeper's head into the goal. In an odd twist the same then happened for Chilcote with two minutes remaining, as Ajsa hit the ball towards the Percy goal and it looped and bobbled its way into the net. A hard fought 3v3 draw - probably the fair result. Well done to all of the girls for a great performance and a point in their first match!!!

Chilcote Vs Woodhouse HMS Cup

On Monday 3rd February the Chilcote boys' football team played against Woodhouse school in the HMS Cup competition. The match took place at the Edenbridge Road pitches.

In the first half, Chilcote struggled to get their passing game going on what was a boggy pitch. They were the more dominant side and created a number of good opportunities but unfortunately could not take them. Just before half time Noah managed to score a goal following a chance from a corner. This meant that Chilcote went in 1v0 up.

In the second half, Chilcote had the wind with them and this really helped them to begin to dominate the match. They won a free kick on the edge of the box which James curled through the wall and into the bottom corner. Shorty afterwards, Woodhouse scored a breakaway goal when Chilcote failed to clear the ball. Noah then restored Chilcote's two goal lead after he ran onto a great ball ove rthe top from Harry. Before the end of the game, Noah managed to grab another two goals to put the result beyond any doubt. A good performance from the boys and Chilcote march into the quarter-finals. Well done to the whole team for a good performance!!!

Year 3 and 4 Mixed Dodgeball Tournament

On Tuesday 26th November, two mixed teams from Chilcote represented the school in a dodgeball tournament held at Kings Heath Boys School.

Chilcote A were in a group with Robin Hood A, Yardley Wood B and Hollywood B. They played really well in all of their group matches and won all three games quite comfortably. This meant that they qualified for the semi finals.

Chilcote B were in a group with Robin Hood B, Yardley Wood A and Hollywood A. They played well in their first match but were unfortunately well beaten by Robin Hood B. In their second game they played better and only narrowly lost to Hollywood A. In their last game they played some fantastic dodgeball and beat Yardley Wood A, wiping their team out in the process.

In the semi final Chilcote A played against Kings Norton A. The first match was really close and could have gone either way but Kings Norton got the win. In the second match Chilcote struggled and Kings Norton dominated from start to finish.

This meant that Chilcote went into a third and fourth place play off where they played against Yardley Wood A. They won the first game without anybody getting hit out. In the second game it was a bit closer but as the timer was up Chilcote were 3 people to 2 up. Therefore, Chilcote A came third overall!

Well done to both teams who did the school proud!!!

Netball Match Vs Hollywood School

On Monday 18th November, Chilcote's netball squad took two teams to play against Hollywood school.

Chilcote A played their league fixture against Hollywood A. In the first quarter Chilcote raced into a 1v0 lead when they scored from their first attack. Hollywood equalised soon after. The quarter was very even but Chilcote managed to finish another chance to lead 2v1 at the break. In the second quarter, it was another tight affair but Chilcote just edged it and scored 1 goal to lead 3v1 at the halfway stage. The third quarter was probably Chilcote's best quarter in the match. They played some excellent netball and finished their chances. They scored 2 goals without reply to be winning the match  5v1 at the break. In the final quarter, Chilcote played well and scored 2 more goals but Hollywood also managed to score 1 of their chances. The quarter finished 2v1 to
Chilcote and the match finished 7v2 to Chilcote.

Chilcote B played a friendly against Hollywood B. In the first quarter Chilcote took a 1v0 lead after some nice passing. The quarter was very even but Chilcote managed to finish quarter 1v0 up. In the second quarter, it was another tight affair with neither team managing to score so it was 1v0 at the halfway stage. In the third quarter, Chilcote managed to play some good netball and finished one of their chances. They scored 1 goal without reply to be winning the match  2v0 at the break. In the final quarter, Chilcote played well and boxed Hollywood in. Their pressure finally paid off and they scored another goal. The quarter finished 1v0 to Chilcote and the match finished 3v0 to Chilcote.

Two fantastic results - well played to all of the children!!!

Summer School Games

On Friday 12th July 2019 ten children from Year 5 and nine children from Year 6 represented the school in a Year 5 Kwik Cricket competition and a Year 6 mixed handball competition.

Both of these competitions were part of the Birmingham School Summer Games and the teams qualified courtesy of winning their local partnership events.

The cricketers played four group games. They won three of those games quite comfortably and only conceded fourteen runs. The fielding and bowling was simply superb. The other game was an incredible match between two very good schools. Chilcote unfortunately lost the game by one run (209-210)! The school they played went on to win the whole competition so shows how close Chilcote came.

The handballers played five group games and despite having a slow start in terms of their performance won all five games and qualified for the semi finals of the competition.

The cricketers finished second in their group and played the school who finished second in the other group in the third and fourth place play-off. Chilcote bowled first and redtricted the other team to a score of 198 (they started on 200). Chilcote just needed to be sensible in their batting and not throw their wickets away. This is exactly what they did, Batting a very mature and risk free innings to score a total of 236 runs. Therefore they finished in third place in the whole of Birmingham - a wonderful achievement!

The handballers had a tough semi-final match but took the lead early on and despite the other team keeping close to them they managed to always keep the lead in the scoring. They made it slightly more comfortable towards the end and ended up winning by 5 goals to 3. Thus they qualified for the final. They had a very tough match against an unbeaten opponent in the final and unfortunately for Chilcote it was just a step too far. They lot the game 4v1 but gave everything. Still they finished as the second best school in Birmingham for handball which is a remarkable achievement!!!

Well done to all of the children involved who, as always represented the school superbly well and gave everything to the Chilcote cause!!!

Year 5 Cricket Tournament

On Wednesday 5th June ten children from Year 5 represented the school at a cricket tournament held at Moseley Ashfield cricket ground.

The schools were split into two groups with four teams in each group. The schools played the teams in their group once and then would play the school who finished in the same position in the other group.

In this from of cricket each team started on 200 runs and lose 5 runs per wicket lost. They score runs in the normal way.

Chilcote started with a game against The Oaks and decided to bowl first. They bowled and fielded excellently and The Oaks finished their innings on 180 runs. Chilcote then batted and scored a very good 277 in reply. Thus, they won the game by 97 runs.

Their next game was against Grendon, again they decided to bowl first. They restricted Grendon to a score of 207 runs because again they bowled and fielded amazingly well. In reply, Chilcote managed to score 274 runs in reply with an outstanding batting perfromance. This meant that they won the game by 67 runs.

In the final game Chilcote played against Allens Croft School. Allens Croft chose to bat first and posted a score of 213 runs. Chilcote were again superb in the field and with their bowling. Chilcote then replied by scoring 254 after they had made a few silly mistakes. This meant that they won the game by 41 runs.

This meant that Chilcote made it to the final where they played Hollywood Primary School. Hollywood chose to bowl first and put Chilcote into bat. Chilcote batted superbly well and didn't give away hardly any wickets. They posted a score of 278. Hollywood then replied with 210 runs as Chilcote bowled even better than they had before. They bowled accurately and quickly. This meant that they won the game by 68 runs and won the final!!!

Well done to all of the children, as they represented the school superbly well and showed their great sportsmanship throughout!!!

Chilcote boys Vs Wheelers Lane

On Tuesday 21st May, the Chilcote boys' football team played their final league fixture against Wheelers Lane school at Yardley Wood playing fields. The boys knew that if they drew or won the match then they would win the league. If they lost the match then Chilcote would be waiting for the final result between Wheelers Lane and Hall Green to see who won the league.

The game started as a cagey affair with neither team wanting to let the other team in. Chilcote were on top in the first half but Wheelers were dangerous on the break. During the half Chilcote had two great chances to score but unfortunately put the ball wide of the post on both occasions. Wheelers Lane had one great opportunity to score as well but Ryan made a last ditch interception to clear the ball before it went over the goal line.

In the second half, Chilcote tried their best to find a goal but their final pass just would not come off and when it did the Wheelers Lane goalkeeper was always in the right place to make the save. Wheelers were having some chances of their own and Chilcote had Benjy to thank for pulling off an outstanding save when the Wheeler's winger was through on goal. Devastatingly, just five minutes from the end Chilcote conceded a goal. The ball got played over the top and the Wheeler's winger got to the ball at the same time as Chilcote's keeper and the ball bobbled back to him to roll into the empty net. Chilcote tried to find an equaliser, which on the balance of play they deserved but couldn't. The final score was 1v0 to Wheelers Lane.

Unfortunately this result meant that Chilcote had to wait forn the outcome of the Wheelers Lane Vs Hall Green fixture to see if they had managed to win the league on goal difference.

The result is now in and Wheelers Lane beat Hall Green 8v2. Fortunately for Chilcote this wasn't enough goals to take top spot away from Chilcote! An incredible season has ended with the boys finishing in the top South Birmingham league in first place on goal difference. Mr Cross and I are extremely proud of all of the boys and what they have achieved this year. We both are so pleased that the boys have finally got soemthing to show for all of their efforts! Well done to all for their fantastic season!!!

Chilcote Girls Vs Our Lady of Lourdes

On Thursday 16th May, the Chilcote girls' football team played their final league fixture against Our Lady of Lourdes at Yardley Wood playing fields.

The game started as a very even contest. Chilcote gradually got on top and had more chances without really working the goalkeeper. Near the end of the half, Chilcote were awarded a penalty for handball. Unfortunately for Chilcote, the penalty was saved not once, not twice but three times. Shortly afterwards, Chilcote had another good chance to score but again hit the ball straight at the goalkeeper. The score at half time was 0v0.

In the second half, the contest was more even and Our Lady of Lourdes had as many chances as Chilcote. Both teams huffed and puffed but could not find a way past either goalkeeper. The game ended in a 0v0 draw.

A great effort by the girls in an excellent season where they have all made lots of progress. Well done girls!!!

Boys' HMS Cup final Vs Boldmere School

On Tuesday 7th May 2019 the Chilcote Boys' football team played in the school's first ever HMS Cup Final against Boldmere School at Bodymoor Heath (Aston Villa's training ground)! Out of nearly 300 Birmingham schools just to get to the final was an incredible achievement.

The first half started and Boldmere came out of the blocks flying. They immediately put Chilcote under pressure and won a couple of corners in a row. Chilcote had a couple of breaks but for the most part were penned into their own half. Halfway through the first half Boldmere were awarded a free-kick just outside the penalty area. Boldmere's captain stepped up and curled the ball into the top corner to give them the lead. The first half continued in the same fashion with Boldmere having a lot of the ball but Chilcote occasionally breaking. On one such break they won a free-kick of their own right on the edge of the box but Ben's shot just went past the far post from a tight angle. At half time the score was 1v0 to Boldmere.

In the second half Chilcote stepped up their game and played better. Unfortunately, the Boldmere captain was an excellent player and twice in quick succession he ran through the middle of the pitch shrugging off all challengers and smashed the ball into the bottom corner on both occasions. Then, not long after Boldmere scored their fourth after a shot deflected to their striker who put the ball home. Chilcote did not give up and they did not let their heads go down. In fact after the fourth goal went in they had their best period of play in the match. They won a few corners and from one such corner the ball struck Etik's knee and flew into the net to make it 4v1. Chilcote huffed and puffed after that but couldn't find a way past the excellent Boldmere midfield and defence. The game ended 4v1 to Boldmere.

Mr Cross and I (Mr Haycock) would like to say how proud we are of the boys and what they have achieved this year. Just to get to this final is an amazing achievement! Also, we would like to thank all of the staff, parents and family members who came to support the boys in the once in a lifetime match!

Chilcote Vs Lee Forest - HMS Cup Semi-Final

On Thursday 11th April, the Chilcote boys' football team played in the HMS Cup semi-final against Lee Forest for a chance to play at Aston Villa's training ground in the final. This is something no Chilcote team has ever done before!

The first half started well for Chilcote and they had the first chance of the match with a rasping long-range drive. Chilcote dominated the ball for the early stages and were rewarded with the first goal of the match with a great left footed finish from Dylan. Shortly afterwards Chilcote had a goal ruled out for offside. Then, Lee Forest with only their second real effort of the match scored with a volley from outside of the box which gave Benjy no chance in goal. Five minutes before the end of the half, Chilcote got a corner and Steven rose to head the ball onto the post, fortunately Milan was there to head in the rebound and make it 2v1. It stayed this way until half time.

In the second half, the game was more even to begin with but neither team created a chance. Then, Lee Forest got a corner and scored direct from the corner - another unstoppable goal! This seemed to galvanise Chilcote and they started to dominate the ball and the chances again. Dylan beat his man and put in a lovely cross for Ben to prod home to make it 3v2 to Chilcote. They then had a further three chances to finish the game off, hitting the bar, having one cleared off the line and narrowly missing the other. This made for a nervy finish but Chilcote were firm defensively and won the game 3v2!

An incredible performance and an outstanding result for the team and for the school - well doen to all involved! Onto the final at Bodymoor Heath!!!

Year 5 and 6 Mixed Netball Tournament

On Wednesday 10th April 2019, eight children represented Chilcote at a mixed netball tournament held at Kings Heath Boys' School.

In total, nine teams entered the tournament and were split into two groups. Everybody in the group played each other once. The winners from each group went through to a final and the second place team in each group went through to a third and fourth place play-off.

Chilcote were in a group with Hollywood, The Oaks and Grendon. They started their campaign against Hollywood. The game was close with Chilcote having slightly more chances to score. They took a lead but then couldn't capitalise on the lead and conceded an equaliser late on in the match. With the clock ticking down and the match looking like it would be drawn Chilcote put away their last chance of the match with virtually the last throw of the match to win 2v1.

In their second game, Chilcote played against the Oaks. They dominated the ball and the chances. Unfortunately, the missed a few chances but did manage to take an early lead. They continued to be the better team and went on to score two more goals later in the match to make the final score 3v0.

In their final group game, Chilcote played against Grendon and played their best netball of the night. The GA and GS really had their shooting hands with them in this game and Chilcote took many of their chances. They raced into the lead and were then relentless in creating and scoring chances. They ended up winning the match 9v0. Therefore, they qualified for the final as winners of their group.

In the final, Chilcote played against Cotteridge, who had been unbeaten in their group. It was a tough game and Cotteridge scored from their first attack. Chilcote tried their best but just couldn't create opportunities as the Cotteridge defence was too tough. The final score was 4v0 to Cotteridge.

Second place overall is a fantastic achievement! Well done to all of the children involved!!!

Girls' Football Vs Moor Green Academy

On Tuesday 9th April 2019, the Chilcote girls' football team played their next league fixture against Moor Green Academy at Yardley Wood playing fields.

The first half started with Chilcote being the dominant force and creating a few opportunities. Unfortunately, they either made the wrong choice or rushed their efforts and couldn't take any of the chances that fell their way. The score at half time was 0v0.

In the second half, Chilcote's fortunes changed and the chances that fell their way they managed to take. First, they scored from a long range shot and then scored from a nice passing move. Moor Green then got a goal back before Chilcote went on to score three more long-ranged efforts. Abi scored a tremendous four goals out of the five! The final score was 5v1 to Chilcote.

A great game and good sportsmanship from both teams. Well done to all involved!!!
