Autumn Term in Year 1

Year 1 have had a brilliant Autumn Term. For the first half term we transitioned between Reception and Year 1 with choosing activities as well as our focused work. In Autumn 2 we have been working very hard doing our work and our lessons as a whole class.

Our topic for Autumn 1 was 'Our World'. We enjoyed a trip around our local area and learnt all about trees and birds we might find in 'Our World'.

We painted trees, made clay birds and at home we created our very own bird projects which were fabulous!

Here are some of our bird projects:

Year 1 learnt about Dementia UK when we raised money for them by wearing blue. Mrs Butler came to talk to us about the charity and who they help.

As part of learning about 'Our World' we learnt about our rights and we took part in UNICEF's World's Largest Lesson, finding out about where our food comes from.

We also painted some self-portraits in the style of Chuck Close.

In Autumn 2, our topic was 'Toys'. We have enjoyed finding out about toys from the past, especially when we went on our trip to Cannock Chase Toy Museum.

Here is some of our writing about our trip to the toy museum:

We asked our families about the toys they liked to play with and to end our topic we designed and made our own puppets.

Well done for all your hard work this term Year 1! Have a super holiday.

YEAR 5 BAKE IT CELEBRATION!!!

This week, all Year 5 children have brought in wonderful, delicious and terrific treats! These delightful desserts have been made by the pupils, who have put in a lot of effort. Experimenting, they used one recipe from their original choices to make their own delicious treat. Also, all of the students were lucky because they got to try lots of cakes and give feedback on at least five scrumptious puddings!

All of this baking at home has supported our DT project, called 'Bake It'.  In this topic we have been tasting different breads and describing their appearance, texture, smell and taste (we also gave a score out of five). Later we will draw diagrams, list resources and write instructions, as part of our project.

This topic is one of the best the children have ever had! And in two weeks we get to bake bread in school, as part of Health Week!

Please encourage your children to cook and bake!

From Maryam!

Year 5's Rivers of Reading

This term, Year 5 have been creating 'Rivers of Reading' as part of our homework. This was a new project that encouraged us to reflect on our reading and record everything we read at home! For example, lots of children read different types of texts, such as reports from newspapers and magazine articles (although fiction books were the main choice).

Some of the highlights include:

  • Anna's river of books that recorded everything she had read over the last month. On each 'kayak' she wrote the name of the best book she had read that week!
  • Tyler’s reading record was terrific – with various mentions of the different text types he had read.
  • Katie-Jane made an awesome tree with seven leaves representing the things she had read. Her absolute favourite was called ‘Moondial’, which she said was a massive mystery!
  • Luke did an impeccable poster of different texts, such as: 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid', 'Survivors' (which made a nice change from story books) and Tom Gates. He even wrote about his club leaflet – from the Boys' Brigade.

In conclusion, we believe that the project helped inspire the Year 5 pupils to engage in their books and enjoy their reading time! It has helped many of us understand the importance of reading, and how much of it we do already! We now look forward to seeing many more projects from across the year group.

Thanks, Katie-Jane and Anna.

Year 1’s Homework Project

We are very proud of the projects Year 1 have worked on as a homework task.   They were asked to find out about a tree in their local area and present it in any way they would like.   We are amazed at the creativity and thought put into the work.   We have had photos, written work, poems, models, paintings, collages and even a “YouTube”!   Well done to everyone and a big “Thank you” for all the support parents and families have given the children.

Year 5 English Homework

Here is a link to the story of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' that we watched in class when we first looked at the play before Easter.  You might want to watch it again to help you with your homework this week.

Easter activities in Reception

We have had a very enjoyable week in Reception.

We have been learning Spring songs, taking part in an Easter egg hunt around the playground, creating patterns on Easter eggs, making chocolate nests and taking part in our Easter bonnet parades.
Thank you so much to all our parents who helped us make our beautiful bonnets- we all looked amazing.

We wish you all a very happy and restful holiday.

Amazing Homework Projects

We have been amazed by the Egyptian projects that have been presented by the Year 4 Children!

We are so proud of how hard each and every member of  the year group have worked to produce something really special.

All our work will be displayed in the corridors for everyone to see, so please do pop in to have a look.
The projects will be left on display for children from across the school to enjoy!
