Year 3 Health Week

On Monday the 20th of June, Year 3 enjoyed starting Health Week by running a daily mile, playing a house quiz, learning about how virus and bacteria are spread. As Health Week continued Year 3 also had the opportunity to learn about safety of household products, go swimming, have a session of military fitness lead by military instructors. The children also learnt some dance through a professional dance coach and planned, made and drank some healthy smoothies.

Health week in Reception

This week we have had lots of visitors and exciting activities for our health week.

On Monday, Tom, a paramedic (and Lewis and Daniel`s Dad) visited us with his ambulance. It was very exciting to go inside and see all the equipment and hear the siren! We also learned how to check our heart rate with a special machine and how paramedics protect people`s injuries with a special `beanbag` that deflates around broken bones to keep them still.

We have been learning all about healthy foods and we have been talking about what foods we should eat. We tried lots of different healthy fruit salad foods and made fruit kebabs. We also had the chance to harvest some of our very own strawberries that we’ve been growing in our Reception garden! They were yummy!

We also received training from the British Military fitness team which was great fun!

Year 2 Monday in Health Week

On Monday 20th June we began our Health Week with many exciting events. First we had a visit from Colin the beekeeper and found out how honey is made. Colin kindly brought his beekeeping suit and answered all our questions. Did you know that when a bee is born it's called a larva? Then Tom, who is a paramedic, came to show us what he does and the equipment in an ambulance. Lastly we had our Health Week quiz in our houses. What a busy day we had!

Colin showed us some of his equipment and we learnt lots of interesting facts about bees!
Tom showed us the inside of his ambulance
and we learnt about what paramedics do.

Year 3 trip the Botanical Gardens

On Monday the 13th of June, Year 3 enjoyed a trip to the world famous Botanical Gardens. The children enjoyed exploring the Victorian glasshouses filled with exotic plants. The Year 3 children are currently learning about rainforests in their Topic work and learnt lots about rainforest plants. The children had a busy day enjoyed activities such as; hunting for plants, smelling and touching produce made by plants, exploring the grounds and play parks, visiting the butterfly farm, seeing the tropical birds in the aviary and meeting the beautiful peacocks which roam the gardens. Overall the Year 3 children behaved beautifully and represented their school proudly. Well done Year 3!

Year 1's Trip to Plantasia

On Friday Year 1 went on a trip to Plantasia.   We had a super time.   When we arrived, Ray, the man from Plantasia told us that a lot of the park was under water and there would be things we could not do.   However  we did some things that we were not expecting to do!

We saw a lot of very beautiful fish, some birds, and a tortoise who was only one year old - Ray told us that she could live to be 150!   We also were allowed to stroke a very beautiful rabbit and look at his guinea pig friends.   We had a great walk around the lakes looking out for different sorts of insects and we went on a tree top walk - we now know what it is like to be a bird in trees.   The best of our day was having our lunch in a big tent and exploring the fantastic mazes.   We were all on our very best behaviour.   We had a great day but came home a bit muddy and tired.
 "Wow! Look at that one!"
"I think I can see one in here."

 A one year old tortoise
 These birds were very beautiful
 Lunch at last
 The mazes were amazing!!

Reception`s visit to Yardley Wood library

On Monday 13th June, R Oak and R Ash visited Yardley Wood library to learn about being a library member. We enjoyed looking at all the different books,  we shared a story with the librarians and learned about how to borrow books.

Lots of us joined as members and were able to borrow some books to take home to share with our families.
Remember to take your books back by 11th July- and then you can borrow some new ones!

We enjoyed travelling there on the school minibus and in cars.
Thank you very much to all our families who met us there and to Mr Cross for driving us there and back in the minibus.

Chilcote String Quartets at the Ladywood Arc

On the evening of  Tuesday 14th June, our two String Quartets performed in a concert for `Pupils of Potential` organised by the Music Service at the Ladywood Arc.

Both quartets played very well, performing `Nelly the Elephant`, `The Yellow rose of Texas` and `Oh Susanna` which were very well received by the audience.

Well done for representing our school so well and thank you to you all and to Mrs Brookes for taking part in the concert.
