Entry Point morning in Year 1

In Year 1 we have been learning through our IPC topic Our World. The topic is all about exploring and learning about the local environment from the pupil’s gardens to their local park. The children thoroughly enjoyed a fun trip to Trittiford Park for their entry point morning to our topic the pupils then explored the local wildlife, allotment gardens and rivers.

The children learnt the names of the local trees and their seeds and enjoyed a leaf identification hunt in the park. The children asked insightful questions and were very observant about their local area, all morning the pupils represented the school well showing lots of good behaviour.

The pupils collected different materials including leaves, twigs and seeds. In Year 1 we are looking at artwork created by Andy Goldsworthy, in the afternoon the children used their different materials to create a collage.

The Year 1 team would like to say a big thank you to parent helpers who joined us for the morning. The pupils had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed their outdoor learning in the park.

Year 6 Boys' Football Tournament

On Friday 30th September the year 6 boys' football team played in a football tournament against fifteen other schools. The tournament took place at Yardley Wood playing fields.

The teams were split into four groups with the top team going through to the semi-finals.

Chilcote started against Acocks Green school and despite dominating for the entire game couldn't score so the game ended 0v0. Next, they played against Hollywood and again it was a similar story they just could not get the goal their play deserved and the game ended 0v0. This meant that they had to beat Yarnfield 2v0 in their final game to qualify. The game started in the same vain as they couldn't find a goal, but then it clicked and Chilcote scored two goals in quick succession. They got the result they needed and won 2v0 to qualify for the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals Chilcote played against Moseley. The game was very even and both teams had chances but neither side took theirs until a couple of minutes from the end and Chilcote headed in a winner from a cross. They held on and won the game 1v0.

In the final Chilcote played against Holy Souls. It was an even game with Holy Souls creating more chances. Just before the break they broke the deadlock and were 1v0 up at half time. Chilcote could not find a goal in the second half and the game ended 1v0 to Holy Souls.

All the boys played really well and should be proud to finish as runners up! Well done to all involved!!!

Year 3 Mixed Football Tournament

On Thursday 29th September twelve children represented Chilcote at a year 3 and 4 mixed football tournament. The children were split into two teams. The tournament took place at the Baverstock Academy.

The teams were split into two groups with the top two teams from each group going into the semi-finals and then the final.

Chilcote A played in group 1 and had three matches. In the first they beat Bells Farm 4v0. In the second game they had a really close 2v2 draw with Hollywood. Finally they won a thrilling encounter with Yardley Wood 3v2. This meant that they qualified for the semi-finals.

Chilcote B played in group 2 and had three matches. In their first game they lost 3v0 to the Oaks. In the second game they lost 5v0 to Cotteridge. Finally, they drew 1v1 with Allens Croft. Unfortunately they didn't qualify for the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals Chilcote A played against the Oaks. They played really well and won 4v0.

In the final they played against Cotteridge. Unfortunately they lost the game 3v0 but put in a great performance!

Primary Schools' Summer Games Final

On Friday 8th July. Forty eight children from Chilcote school represented the school in 6 different Birmingham wide finals. The events were: Cricket, Tag-rugby, Tennis, Golf, Mega fest rugby and Rounders.

The Cricket team were unbeaten in the group stages and got into the final. Unfortunately, they lost the final by only 3 runs. This did mean they finished second in Birmingham though, so an excellent achievement!

The Tag-rugby team did exceptionally well. They only lost one game all day and managed to finish as Birmingham wide champions!!!

The Tennis team only missed out on getting into the final by 2 points having drew 2v2 with the other unbeaten school. They won their other four group games. In their third and fourth place play-off they lost 3v1 in four very close games of tennis. This meant that they finished in fourth place in Birmingham, which is a great result!

The golf children had a thoroughly enjoyable day and managed to finish in sixth place out of eleven schools, so did really well.

The mega-fest event was a non-competitive event but all of the children represented the school excellently in the different games and activities that they had to do.

The rounders children played really well in their group games and won two and lost two of their games. This meant they qualified for the fifth and sixth place play-off. Unfortunately due to time constraints they didn't get to play that game so finished in sixth place, which yet again is a really good achievement!

Well done to all of the children involved in today's events. Every single child has done Chilcote proud with their ability, dedication, motivation, respect and behaviour!!!

Teddy Bears' Picnic in Early Years!

We had so much fun on Wednesday at our Teddy Bears' Picnic! The sun was shining and we were joined by our grown ups and our favourite teddies. We enjoyed lovely snacks and sang beautifully for our special guests. The best part of our picnic was sharing our Sparkle Books with our grown ups; it was wonderful to look back on all of the special memories we'd made during our time in Reception! Our teachers are so proud of our excellent achievements throughout the year!

Year 6 Kwik Cricket County Finals 2016

On Friday 1st July ten children from Chilcote represented the school in a County Cricket Final held at The Edgbaston Foundation ground. They qualified for this after winning the local area competition.

The tournament was split into two groups. Everybody played each other once. Then, the team that finished first in each group would play each other in the final and the other teams would play the team who finished in the same position as them in each group.

Chilcote started by playing against St Bernard's school. They batted first and gave away some sloppy wickets to finish on 225. St Bernard's replied with 251, so won the game.

Next, Chilcote played against Park Hill School and again batted first. This time they cut out the mistakes and scored an impressive 256. Park Hill replied with 240, which meant that Chilcote had won.

After that, Chilcote played against Little Sutton, who had won their previous two games. Chilcote put in the performance of their lives and batted superbly to get to a total of 247. They then bowled brilliantly and kept Little Sutton's score to 238.

This meant that Chilcote needed to win against St Bernard's (a repeated fixture due to their being one less team in the group). Yet again Chilcote batted sloppily and gave away 6 wickets. They closed on 221. However, unlike in the first game they bowled amazingly well and took 8 wickets off St Bernard's meaning they only scored 211. Another Chilcote win.

This meant that Chilcote had won 3 and lost 1 the same as Little Sutton. So, the officials looked at the total number of wickets taken in the group stage. Chilcote had taken 21 wickets and Little Sutton had taken 23. This meant the boys finished in 2nd in the group.

Finally, Chilcote played in the 3rd and 4th place play-off. They played against Four Oaks school. They bowled first and kept the Four Oaks score to 224. Chilcote replied with an impressive 259, meaning they finished in third place in the tournament.

Little Sutton went on to win the tournament and the Chilcote team were left thinking about what might have been. . .

Well done to all of the boys involved a third place finish in this high caliber event is very impressive! A great performance by all!!!

Reception`s school trip to Trittiford park

On Tuesday 28th June, Reception were due to go to Hatton Country World, however due to a mix up with the coach company, we couldn`t go, so instead we went on a lovely trip to Trittiford park!
We had a great day, the weather was kind to us and it stayed dry until we returned to school.
We walked to and from the park, we had fantastic fun playing football, skipping and playing other ball games with our friends- and adults- and then we fed the ducks, geese and moorhens.

We also walked to Chinnbrook park and had fun trying out all the play equipment- the roundabout and swings were especially popular.

It was lovely that some of our parents were able to come with us or meet us there- to help us enjoy our day.

Well done to all the Reception children who behaved beautifully and were very sensible all day- you were fantastic representatives of our school.

Very many thanks to all the Reception staff team, our hardworking parent helpers and Mr Franklin- who helped us transport our play equipment, as well as accompanying us all day.

In the second game Chilcote again won 3v1 this time against Timberly School.

In the third game Chilcote played against Chad Vale School. They drew on games 2v2 and also drew on points scored as well.

In their final group game Chilcote played against Montgomery School and won 4v0.

This meant that Chilcote finished in first place in their group and qualified for the final.

In the final Chilcote played against St Nicholas School. The match ended 2v2. That meant it went down to points scored and Chilcote scored 2 more points than their opponents. This meant that they won the final and finished the day as the number one school at the Birmingham School Games!!!

A massive well done to Zach, Damian, Emily and Grace for their magnificent effort, behaviour and performance!!!

Year 2 trip to Peckwood

From 22nd-23rd June (2 Willow) and 23rd-24th June (2 Rowan), Year 2 stayed at the Peckwood Centre. The centre has a huge play area and we enjoyed playing with our friends on the equipment.

Playing on the equipment at the centre. We loved the pole!

When we were all together on Thursday, we followed a letter trail through the forest to find some hidden words. We also went on a night walk through the forest with our torches.

We went for a few walks into the forest.

In our own classes, we made dens for our teddies, collected different coloured items from the forest and played some team games. Best of all, in the evening, Mr Cross made a camp fire and we ate hot dogs, toasted marshmallows and had a talent show round the fire. We had a fantastic time!

Mr Cross and Mrs Lyden made a camp fire with the sticks we
collected from around the play area and forest.
Mr Cross made hot dogs and hot chocolate for us.
After the talent show, we toasted marshmallows on the fire.
They were delicious!

Health Week in Year 4

Year 4 have had a fantastic time this week during Chilcote's annual Health Week. On everyday they have been out to do the 'Daily Mile' building up towards the fun run on Friday.

On Monday, they learnt about healthy foods and took part in the Health Week quiz.

On Tuesday, they tried a variety of muffins (lemon, strawberry and blueberry). Then, they tried a variety of fruits to decide which they would put in their muffins. Also, we took part in the British Military Fitness activity session.

On Wednesday, they chopped their chosen fruits and cooked their healthy muffins. Also, they took part in the whole school British Military Fitness session.

On Friday, the children learnt about drugs and their effects. Then, they learnt about how to stay safe in different situations. Next, they took part in a dance coach session. Finally, all of the children took part in a fun run around the surrounding area.

Health Week in Year 6

In year 6, we have been doing lots of fun activities during health week, such as: cooking healthy curries (as part of a Design Technology project), taking part in British Military Fitness, completing a daily mile (which will improve our health) and finishing off with a fantastic dance!

These activities are not just fun, but will also keep us fit for a brighter future and help us to realise how important exercising and healthy eating is.
