Year 2 History: World War One artefacts

Today, Sandra from HSBC - she normally works with us on school banking - came in to show us some amazing World War One artefacts. Both her grandfathers fought in World War One and she explained how Princess Mary gave the soldiers in the trenches Christmas boxes. We got to see medals and photographs close up, including one photograph of Sandra's grandfather who survived the war, but died shortly afterwards because of the deadly gas used on the battlefield.

She was impressed by our knowledge of World War One and we all agreed how important it was for young people to remember the sacrifices made by others.

It was a privilege to hold these medals.

A genuine Princess Mary Christmas box. It was surprisingly heavy.

The soldiers' nicknames for these medals were 'Pip', 'Squeak' and 'Wilfred'!
